JAN 10 CITY COMMISSION MEETING TOPICS OF INTEREST

There will be a City Commission meeting on Monday, Jan. 10, at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few topics of interest:

MAYOR’S REPORT:

  • Proclamation for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day

  • Employee of the Quarter presentation - Rene Brogan

  • Civil Service Board appointment

  • State of the City Address: Tuesday, Jan. 11

  • Review of Town Meeting guidelines: Thursday, Jan. 13

NON-ACTION ITEMS:

  • Winter Park Community Center update by ZHA, Inc.

CONSENT AGENDA:

  • Approve the minutes of 11/22/10 and 12/13/2010.

  • Approve the following Neighborhood Council matching grant requests who meet the criteria for funding: Timberlane Shores $4,000; Orwin Manor $325; and Quail Hollow Homeowners Association $3,300.

  • Accept the Ethics Board work plan.

  • Approval of various purchases and contracts (for a complete list of purchases and contracts, access the Commission Agenda Packet at www.cityofwinterpark.org > Government > City Commission > Agenda Packets).

ACTION ITEMS REQUIRING DISCUSSION:

  • Extension of Tennis Center Management Contract of the Winter Park Tennis Center with High Performance Sports Management, Inc., for an additional 12-month period.

PUBLIC HEARINGS:

  • Second reading of the ordinance to extend the deadline for the de-annexation of the parcels involved in the Ravaudage project (Dan Bellows).

  • First reading of the ordinance to vacate utility easement at 1211 College Point.

  • First reading of the ordinance relating to animal control and penalties; authorizing a fee for entry into the dog park at Fleet Peeples Park, and providing for violations.

MAYOR/CITY COMMISSION LUNCHEON

The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and the City of Winter Park invites you to attend the annual Mayor/City Commission Luncheon on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 11:30 a.m., at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center located at 1050 West Morse Boulevard.

The event will feature Winter Park’s Mayor, Ken Bradley’s annual State of the City Address, brief remarks from Winter Park’s City Commissioners, and the presentation of the city’s Employees of the Year. WINTER PARK CITY COMMISSION TO HOST TOWN MEETING

The Winter Park City Commission will host a Town Meeting on Thursday, Jan. 13, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center located at 1050 West Morse Boulevard. Following a brief welcome by Mayor Kenneth W. Bradley and City Manager Randy Knight, attendees will have the opportunity to ask the City Commission questions during an open Q & A session.

In preparation for the Town Meeting residents may review the city’s Strategic Plan via the city’s official website at www.cityofwinterpark.org > Info At Your Fingertips > Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan outlines the specific initiatives the city has identified as its top priorities and serves as a guideline for the city in making decisions.

FINAL DAYS TO SKATE AT THE ICE RINK

The city’s coolest event of the year, the Winter in the Park holiday ice rink, is coming to a close on Sunday, Jan. 9. Make sure to stop by and take your last spins, twirls and glides of the year by Sunday.

“ART IN CHAMBERS” EXHIBITION FEATURING THE WORKS OF DANA HARGROVE

The City of Winter Park Public Art Advisory Board is proud to announce the newest “Art in Chambers” exhibition featuring the artwork of Dana Hargrove. The exhibition is now open for public viewing through March 2011, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the Commission Chambers and Room 200 at Winter Park City Hall located at 401 Park Avenue South.

An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., in Commission Chambers. Dana Hargrove’s exhibition features collages and paintings relating to transportation as well as mixed media works and lithographs from her observations during a visit to South Africa.

The City of Winter Park is proud to announce the 10th annual Dinner on the Avenue will be held on Saturday, April 16, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This unique, fun-filled dining experience hosted by the City of Winter Park has become the social event of the year.

Gather a table of friends, family, co-workers or neighbors to dine under the stars on beautiful Park Avenue. Tables of eight (8) are available for just $100 each. Only the table, white linen tablecloth and chairs are provided - everything else is up to you.

UNITY HERITAGE FESTIVAL

Residents and local businesses will come together to celebrate the City of Winter Park’s 9th annual Unity Heritage Festival on Sunday, Jan. 16, and Monday, Jan. 17 in Shady Park at Hannibal Square (corner of Pennsylvania and New England avenues). The annual festival will promote family history and raise funds for the Educational Fulfillment Fund for local economically disadvantaged youth.

• Sunday, Jan. 16, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Activities will include children’s games, food and retail vendors, entertainment by various gospel artists, and the presentation of the annual Heritage Award.

• Monday, Jan. 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Join Mayor Ken Bradley and Winter Park city officials at 10 a.m. for a special Martin Luther King, Jr., Symbolic Program, including the Feature Family Presentation which will be presented to the Simpson family. Exciting events and activities will continue throughout the day including food and musical entertainment.
