Supporters of allowing urban chickens to roost in Maitland backyards will have a chance to cluck their case to the City Council on Monday night.

With the support of a flock of nearly 300 online petition signees, resident John Endicott will lay down his urban chicken proposal to members of Maitland’s Planning & Zoning Commission for discussion on Thursday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. Planning & Zoning Chairman Dale McDonald said the Commission will then make recommendations to Council on Monday as they look into the idea of drafting an ordinance to allow the fowl.

From code standards for coups to counts of flocks, McDonald said there are dozens of details that need to be nailed down before an ordinance is hatched.

“We want to make sure the holistic community benefit out ways whatever the individual issues may be,” he said.
