Beginning Oct. 1 the Maitland Fire Department will begin to offer flu shots. We are encouraging the public to get vaccinated early this season. This year Maitland will offer the new Quadrivalent vaccine which protects against four strains of seasonal viruses for better protection compared to the Trivalent three-strain vaccine.

While it is important for everyone to receive their flu shot, it is especially important for people in the following groups to ensure they are protected:

• People who are at high risk of developing serious complications if they get sick with the flu.

• People who have certain medical conditions including asthma, diabetes and chronic lung disease.

• Pregnant women.

• Children younger than age 5, and seniors 65 and older.

• People who live with or care for others who are at high risk of developing serious complications.

• Caregivers of infants less than 6 months old.

• Health care personnel.

To get your flu shot, stop by the fire station located at 1776 Independence Lane (behind City Hall) at the intersection of Maitland and Packwood avenues any day of the week. Maitland firefighters will also be administering vaccines on Sundays at the Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. located at Lake Lily. For groups of 15 or more who are located in Maitland, arrangements can be made to bring the flu shots to you. Most insurances and Medicare Part B are accepted at no charge. For those without insurance the cost is $30 for the new Quadrivalent or $25 for the Trivalent flu vaccine.
