Dinner on the Avenue street closure

The city of Winter Park will host the 14th annual Dinner on the Avenue Saturday, April 11, at 6 p.m. Tickets have sold out and a record-breaking crowd of 1,280 diners are expected to attend this unique social event. Park Avenue will be closed to all thru traffic from Morse Boulevard to New England Avenue, beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.

If the weather does not cooperate and the event must be canceled, this decision will be made by 3 p.m. on April 11. Employment opportunities

The city of Winter Park has a number of positions currently available from event attendants, camp counselors, maintenance workers and lifeguards. We invite applicants to search and apply for employment opportunities online at cityofwinterpark.org/employment.

Earth Day in the Park

The city will proudly host Earth Day in the Park on Sunday, April 19. This fun-filled event, presented by the city’s Sustainability Program and Keep Winter Park Beautiful, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Central Park. Ceremonial events from the main stage will include a mayor’s welcome, Winter Park Green School Grant award presentations, and the Green Workplace Challenge kick-off at 11:30 a.m.

Earth Day in the Park will provide fun for all ages including a kid’s zone with games, face painting, an eco-friendly slime challenge, and tie-dye T-shirts by Rollins College; live music all day long; recycling stations by Goodwill Industries; IDEAS-4-US presenting environment focused films; food and beverage vendors; electric car show, and much more!

In celebration of Arbor Day and in memory of community philanthropist Kenneth Murrah, the Urban Forestry Division will host a live oak tree planting at 1 p.m. near the Rose Garden. Certified arborists will also be on site to answer questions and give away an assortment of one-gallon containerized trees for city residents to plant at home. Three 15-gallon trees and children’s book “My City Tree Cares for Me” will be raffled with winners being announce at 3 p.m.

Founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970, Earth Day is designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the earth’s environment. This celebration will showcase how the city of Winter Park and KWPB are working to make the city more sustainable. Attendees will learn how the city is working to implement a Sustainability Action Plan and be asked for their input for the community plan.

To promote creative and sustainable transportation modes, the Pedestrian & Bicycle Advisory Board will host the city of Winter Park Bike Valet. Patrons of the event will be able to check their bike free of charge at Garfield Avenue behind the main stage in Central Park.

Household hazardous waste disposal event

The city, in partnership with Waste Pro for household hazardous waste, and A1 Assets Inc. for e-waste, will be offering waste disposal for all city residents Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Compound located at 1409 Howell Branch Road, directly behind Fire Station 64.
