Public Works pipeline

The Maitland Public Works Department continues its work for all Maitland residents. Here you will find a list of completed projects and projects in the pipeline.

Completed:

• Replanted and re-mulched medians along U.S. Highway 17-92

• Renovated and re-painted the gazebo at Lake Lily Park

• Repaired two emergency stormwater pipelines

In the pipeline:

• Kings Row Park upgrades: Planned improvements include landscaping, walking paths, playground equipment, a water fountain, and parking spaces.

• Downtown storm sewer project: Engineering is proceeding for construction of a storm sewer in the downtown area, from Independence Lane to George Avenue.

• Old Horatio Covered Bridge roof replacement: It is anticipated that construction will be completed by the end of summer.

• Maitland Community Park water transmission upgrade: Plans are being prepared for construction of a new water transmission main from Mayo Avenue to Arapaho Trail.

• Lift Station No. 4 Diversion Project: The project to construct a sanitary sewer force main under Horatio Avenue for increased capacity is out for bid. The work will be performed in a way to minimize disruption on this crucial east-west thoroughfare.

Arbor Day Giveaway results

Thank you, Maitland, for joining us on April 26 for an Arbor Day tree giveaway at the Maitland Farmers Market. Varieties of trees available in the giveaway included little gem magnolia, yellow tabebuia, slash pine, crape myrtle, live oak, shumard oak, and holly. Residents claimed a total of 32 trees.

Things to do in Maitland

The city of Maitland hosts the Maitland Farmers Market at Lake Lily Park every Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. Check itsmymaitland.com for a list of vendors and market updates.

Art & History Museums – Maitland will host Culture Pop! on May 29 at 7 p.m. The cost is free for A&H members, and $5 for non-members.

The city of Maitland will host an Orange County Extension class on Florida Friendly Landscaping on June 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Maitland Community Park. Call 407-539-0042 to sign up for this free class.

Performing Arts of Maitland will present a concert titled “My Favorite Things” on June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Maitland Presbyterian Church. PAM is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. The program includes Shostakovich’s “Festival Overture,” Elgar’s “Nimrod,” and Schumann Concerto in A Minor. Call 407-339-5984, ext. 219, for tickets.
