Nov. 23 City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, Nov. 23, at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave. For the most up-to-date agenda, please visit cityofwinterpark.org under What’s New. Below are a few topics of interest:

Mayor’s Report

• Proclamation – Small Business Saturday

• Gift of art to the city in recognition of Employment Technologies Corporation 20th anniversary

Consent Agenda

• Approve the minutes for Nov. 9, 2015.

• Approve various purchases and contracts (for a complete list, please visit cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets).

• Approve the annual review of the city’s Debt Management Policy

Public Hearings

• Second reading of the ordinance for the library and events center bond.

• Request of Drew Hill for Conditional Use approval to redevelop Spanish Oaks and Golfview Apartments located at 633 and 651 N. Park Ave., into 10 new, three-story residential units, with a total project size of 44,200 square feet.

• Request of the Winter Park Health Foundation: This hearing must be held after 5 p.m.

— First reading of the ordinances:

 To amend the “Comprehensive Plan” to add a new Comprehensive Plan policy to the text of the Future Land Use element

 To amend the zoning code

 To amend the official zoning map

— Preliminary conditional use approval to redevelop the Wellness Center property at 2005 Mizell Ave. and the adjacent streets with a new two-story, approximately 78,000-square-foot “Project Wellness” facility consisting of a new 44,000-square-foot Wellness Center, 34,000 square feet of medical/public space and parking garage with 265 spaces.

• Request of Benjamin Partners, Ltd.:

— First reading of the ordinance to amend the “Comprehensive Plan” to change the Future Land use designations at 1531 Lee Road and 1325 Lewis Drive.

— First reading of the ordinance to amend the official zoning map.

• First reading of the ordinance creating regulations for street performers in certain areas of the city.

• First reading of the ordinance amending Section 58-65 “R-1AAA Lakefront District” subsection (f)(1)(h) and Section 58-66 “R-1A and R-1AA District.”

• Historic Preservation:

— First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 58 “Land Development Code” Article VIII, “Historic Preservation.”

Ice skating rink returns

Beginning Friday, Nov. 20, through Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, the city of Winter Park will bundle up for “Winter in the Park,” the city’s annual holiday ice skating rink, presented by the Community Redevelopment Agency. The rink is located in Central Park West Meadow located at 150 N. New York Ave., on the corner of New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard. Join us Saturday, Nov. 21, or Sunday, Nov. 22, from noon to 5 p.m. each day for cool giveaways from Disney•Pixar’s “Inside Out” in celebration of its release on Blu-ray & Digital HD, including magnets, activity booklets, movie posters and door hangers. Also, while you’re there register for a chance to win a Digital HD copy of “Inside Out”!

Snowflakes of all ages and skill levels are invited to chill out at “Winter in the Park” during the following hours:

• Monday to Thursday: 3 to 9 p.m.

• Friday: 3 to 10 p.m.

• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

• Sunday: Noon to 8 p.m.

Snow angels are invited to skate all day for only $12 per skater (skate rental included). For a blizzard of 20 or more people, cool group discounts are available. If you are interested in bringing your whole igloo to celebrate birthdays, special events, private parties or corporate holiday gatherings, the rink is available for rental opportunities. Advance reservations are required for private party and group events to avoid an avalanche of skaters.

Holiday Pops in Central Park

The city and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra invite you to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season at their annual Holiday Pops concert Sunday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m. in charming Central Park. This free public concert is made possible by the Charlotte Julia Hollander Trust. Bring a blanket and picnic for a concert program that has become a family tradition in Central Florida. In the spirit of the season, audience members are encouraged to bring non-perishable, canned or dry food items to help restock the pantries at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Over the past 12 years, the orchestra has helped collect over 5,000 pounds of food for families in central Florida.

Still time to ‘Feed the Need’

The Winter Park community is helping to end hunger in Central Florida with its third annual “Feed the Need” campaign from now until Friday, Nov. 20. Donors can text the word NEED to 41444 and set an amount of their choice using a simple form or can donate online by visiting bit.ly/winterparkfeed2015. For every dollar donated, up to $9 worth of grocery products is provided by Second Harvest Food Bank to those in need, and 98 cents from every dollar goes straight to feeding people. Please join a team, become a community champion, host an event, or donate online today.
