Boy scout earns eagle rank

Boy Scout Troop 62, sponsored by St. Margaret Mary, is pleased to announce that Andy Vaughan earned his rank of Eagle on Aug. 12. Andy is the son of Jack and Chris and lives in Maitland. Andy is 17 and a senior at Orangewood Christian School. He’s the 130th member of Troop 62 to earn Eagle ranking since 1958.

Pink Out Winter Park kicks off

The flamingo flock is heading back to town. “Pink Out Winter Park,” the colorful Central Florida tradition that raises funds for breast cancer screenings and supports awareness efforts, launched this month with sales of the iconic yard flamingo. Thousands of flamingos have been purchased since 2011 and have been placed in front yards, outside businesses, and in “flocks” throughout Winter Park. Each flamingo includes a nametag honoring someone affected by breast cancer. Proceeds from the flamingo sales go to the Winter Park Memorial Hospital Mammography Scholarship Fund, which has helped nearly 180 women who otherwise could not afford the screening. Six of those women were diagnosed with cancer and received treatment.
