Mayor’s Report

• The month of September was proclaimed Hunger Action Month in the city of Winter Park. In support of this month the community was challenged to take the “Skip A Meal Challenge.” This challenge asks you to skip a meal and feel for a short while what hunger feels like for our neighbors in need. You can donate what you would have spent on lunch to provide meals to those in need at skipameal.org. All gifts are being matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000. As part of this effort, you are encouraged to create a video on social media and challenge three friends to take the challenge. #skipameal

CoffeeTalk with Commissioner Carolyn Cooper

CoffeeTalk featuring Commissioner Cooper will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 a.m. at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 W. Lyman Ave. Now in its 11th season, CoffeeTalk has become the place for citizens that have “a latte beans to grind” or simply to “espresso their thoughts.” The purpose of CoffeeTalk is to give citizens the opportunity to talk to their city leaders in a more casual, informal environment, and avoid the stage fright that is often experienced at large meetings. Please make plans to join Commissioner Cooper for a cup of conversation and great coffee provided by Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen.

Dispose of your household hazardous waste

The city, in partnership with Waste Pro for household hazardous waste, and A1 Assets Inc. for e-waste, will be offering household hazardous waste disposal for all city residents Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Compound located at 1409 Howell Branch Road. For more information, please call 407-599-3364.

Mosquito safety tip

Even as little as one teaspoon or bottle cap of water standing for more than one week is enough for mosquitoes to breed and multiply. At least once a week, keep mosquitoes from breeding by emptying, turning over, and/or covering anything that could hold water: tires, buckets, toys, pools and pool covers, birdbaths, trash and recycling containers, boat or car covers, roof gutters, coolers, pet dishes, and anything that holds water.
