Sept. 26 City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, Sept. 26, at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave. For the most up-to-date agenda, please visit cityofwinterpark.org under What’s New. Below are a few topics of interest:

Mayor’s Report

• Presentation – Fire-Rescue Department accreditation

CRA meeting

Adjourn as the City Commission and convene as the Community Redevelopment Agency. After completion, adjourn the CRA and reconvene as the City Commission.

• CRA action item

— SunRail’s “Get on Board” support request for Saturday operations from Oct. 1 through Feb. 4, 2017.

Consent Agenda

• Approve the minutes for Sept. 12, 2016.

• Approve contracts (for a complete listing visit cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets).

• Authorize the city manager, in consultation with the city attorney, as needed, to sign purchase orders for payment of HIDTA personnel and operations, subject to the condition that the HIDTA grant funds will be the sole source of money to pay these obligations.

• Appoint Sustainability/Permitting Coordinator Abby Gulden as the alternate to SSNOCWTA.

Public Hearings

• Second reading of the ordinance prohibiting the feeding of feral cats in Mead Botanical Garden, correcting the Fleet Peeples Park name to Lake Baldwin Park, and prohibiting the abandoning of pets in city parks.

• Second reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 74, Personnel, Article V, Retirement and Pension Plans, Division 4, Police Officers; amending Section 74-202, Membership.

• Request of Osprey Custom Homes Inc.:

— Conditional Use approval to redevelop the vacant 0.93-acre property at the northeast corner of Michigan and Schultz avenues with a new development of 12 two-story townhouses.

• Request for acceptance of offer to purchase city property:

— First reading of the ordinance authorizing the conveyance of the city-owned property located between 652 and 700 W. Morse Blvd.

• Fee Schedule effective Oct. 1.

• First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 42, Elections, Section 42-1, Definitions, qualification deadline.

Budget Public Hearings (Must be held after 5 p.m.)

• Second reading of the ordinance adopting the millage rate.

• Second reading of the ordinance adopting the Fiscal Year 2017 annual budget.

Fishing tournament at Martin Luther King Jr. Park

The Parks & Recreation Department of the city of Winter Park and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will present their annual Test the Waters Fishing Tournament, Saturday, Oct. 1, from 7:30 to 10 a.m., at Martin Luther King Jr. Park located at 455 S. Denning Drive.

Children of all ages are invited to participate in this fun-filled event. Bait, fishing poles, and snacks will be provided for all participants. The city’s Parks & Recreation Department will also have a free raffle and guarantees that everyone will take home a fish! 50-plus expo

The annual 50+Plus FYI EXPO will be held Friday, Oct. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Winter Park Community Center located at 721 W. New England Ave. This informative 50-plus active lifestyle resource expo is presented by the Orange County Commission on Aging, 50+Plus FYI Network, Seminole County Triad, and the Senior Resource Alliance. Attendees will meet area service providers, agencies, housing professionals, health care representatives, Medicare specialists, and other professionals who provide valuable products and services to the 50-plus community.

In addition, Walgreens will be available for flu immunizations and there will be free health screenings and seminars. Live entertainment will be provided by jazz legend Miss Jacqueline Jones, The Company Players, classical guitarist Fred Hodes and the Broadway Quality “Cabaret” Variety Show. Free living healthy with diabetes workshops

The Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department has partnered with the Senior Resource Alliance-Area Agency on Aging of Central Florida to offer a free six-week Living Healthy with Diabetes community workshop. The class will be held at Fire-Rescue Headquarters located at 343 W. Canton Ave.

Living Healthy with Diabetes is a workshop that will be offered every Monday from Oct. 17, through Nov. 21, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. This workshop is designed to help people gain self-confidence in their ability to control their symptoms and learn how Type 2 Diabetes affects their lives.
