Feb. 13 City Commission meeting highlights

Mayor’s Report

• A proclamation for the 2017 General and Referendum Election was presented.

Consent Agenda

• The minutes for Jan. 23, 2017 were approved.

• The contracts and solicitations were approved (for a complete list, please visit cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets).

• The renewal of a SWAT Mutual Aid Agreement between the Winter Park, Apopka, Maitland, Winter Garden and Ocoee police departments was approved.

Action Items Requiring Discussion

• Cady Way pool potential programming and improvements were discussed and the agreement with the YMCA was approved.

• The West Fairbanks Façade Matching Grant Program was approved.

• The Canvassing Board for the Tuesday, March 14, 2017, election was tabled until the Monday, Feb. 27 City Commission meeting.

Public Hearings

• Requests of Winter Park Real Estate Advisors Inc.:

— The second reading of the ordinance to amend the “Comprehensive Plan” Future Land Use Map to change from Single Family Residential to Medium Density Residential on the 11-feet to the east of 326 Hannibal Square East, and to change from Central Business District to Medium Density Residential on the property at 354 Hannibal Square East, and from Single Family Residential to Low Density Residential on the properties at 463 and 455 W. Lyman Ave., was approved.

— The second reading of the ordinance to amend the Official Zoning Map to change from single Family Residential (R-1A) District to Medium Density Multiple Family Residential (R-3) District zoning on the 11-feet of property to the east of 326 Hannibal Square East, and to change from Commercial (C-2) District zoning to Medium Density Multiple Family Residential (R-3) District zoning on the property at 354 Hannibal Square East, and from Single Family Residential (R-1A) District zoning to Low Density Residential (R-2) District zoning on the properties at 463 and 455 W. Lyman Ave., was approved.

• The request of Z Properties Group: Subdivision or lot split approval to divide the property at 200 Oakwood Way, into two, single-family building lots was pulled for a future public hearing.

• The first reading of the ordinance vacating and abandoning utility easements in Blocks A-H and L, M, O & P and portion abutting Lots 1-6 and Lots 16-20, Block K of Home Acres Subdivision was approved.

• The first reading of the ordinance establishing the Golf Course Advisory Board and reducing the members on the Public Art Advisory Board was approved.

• The first reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 102-182, City Code with respect to penalties for unauthorized discharges into waterways and other violations of Chapter 102, City Code of Ordinances; providing for fines as provided in the city’s fee schedule; providing for enforcement via the Code Compliance Board for repeated or continuous violations was approved.

State of the City Address

In partnership with the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, Winter Park Mayor Steve Leary will deliver his annual State of the City Address Friday, Feb. 17, at The Alfond Inn. St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The city of Winter Park’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee are proud to present the 39th annual Winter Park St. Patrick’s Day Parade Sunday, March 5, at 2 p.m., in downtown Winter Park. Gather your family and friends and wear some green to enjoy the only St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Central Florida.

The parade will begin at the Winter Park Golf Course and continue south down Park Avenue to Lyman Avenue. More than 75 units will participate. The celebration will also feature Irish music and step-dancing at the main stage in Central Park with demonstrations by three Irish dance schools including Sarah Costello, Tir Na Greine and the Watters School of Irish Dance. Irish music will be provided by Mike Daly. This is one event you won’t want to miss!

St. Patrick’s Day began as an annual feast day to celebrate St. Patrick, the most commonly recognized patron saint of Ireland. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years and it is currently recognized by people of other ethnicities. The day is widely celebrated by wearing green clothing and items such as shamrocks. According to Irish tradition, those who do not wear green on St. Patrick’s Day face the risk of being affectionately pinched.
