A Maitland City Centre update

On Jan. 7, 2016, the beginning of the razing of the southwest block of Horatio Avenue and U.S. Highway 17-92, housing the abandoned Winn-Dixie building and community hotspot Jeremiah’s at the time, took place. Five months later, the developers of the Maitland City Centre project broke ground in a groundbreaking ceremony on a sweltering June morning. One short year later, the construction of Maitland City Centre is underway in a big way.

• With the pre-cast garage erected and completed, construction crews have begun work on the first floor commercial and retail component that fully encapsulates and covers the garage. By the last quarter of 2017, the first floor retail is estimated to be completed.

• From the street, onlookers can currently see the completed pre-cast garage, as well as the retail structure’s first floor columns beginning to take form.

• The development’s overall structure and exterior finishes are estimated to be completed by December 2017 while crews will be wrapping up interior work.

• When completed, Maitland City Centre will include approximately 35,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space within a six-story building that encompasses a three-acre, full city block.

• The development will be very walkable, and include a variety of dining options, retail establishments and everyday conveniences.

• Maitland City Centre’s Mission-style architecture will also include 220 one- and two-bedroom residential units and 24 live/work units.

• Maitland City Centre is on track for a 2018 completion date.

Happy birthday to Maitland Minute

Maitland Minute turned 2 years old on Dec. 12. Birthdays are occasions for gifts. On Dec. 22, 2016, a drawing for a Maitland Come Together water bottle was broadcast on the city’s Facebook page. A total of 13 Maitland residents participated in the giveaway, and all 13 residents provided very thoughtful feedback on how the publication can better serve Maitland residents. However, only one resident could take home the prize. Congratulations to Karen Marrero, the prizewinner. Thank you to all 13 residents who participated in the giveaway.
