Winter Park City Commissioners will discuss a potential mixed-use future land use category at its Monday, June 11 meeting.

The discussion comes as a result of staff asking the City Commission if it would like to open up its options up to more pedestrian friendly development.

A new land use category for mixed-use development – any project with a combination of resident, retail or office – could encourage development and make areas of the city more walkable.

“In summary, the city already has the ability to provide low-intensity mixed-use development along gateway corridors,” a staff report reads. “Staff is seeking direction on the City Commission’s desire to provide property owners the opportunity to build outside the traditional land use and zoning patterns in return for more community input and assets.”
