Celebrate MLK Day, Black History Month in Winter Garden

A virtual program will take place Monday, Jan. 18, at Winter Garden City Hall.

The city of Winter Garden is hosting several family-friendly activities in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Black History Month and invites the community to participate.

A virtual MLK Day ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. Monday Jan. 18, at Winter Garden City Hall, 300 W. Plant St. 

Minister Anthony Hodge of Finding the Lost Sheep Ministry will recite Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “I Have a Dream” on the steps of City Hall, 300 W. Plant St. It can be watched virtually at cwgdn.com/509/MLK-Day-Live-Stream.

Residents also can enjoy an art exhibit at City Hall. Art in Public Places presents “Despite the Obstacles: Educating African American Students in the Days of Segregation.” The exhibit features more than 20 photographs documenting the challenges and successes experienced by black students prior to the integration of Orange County’s public schools in 1969.
