According to a recent update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the transmission of COVID-19 in Orange County is now considered “moderate."

Orange is the first county in Metro Orlando to be downgraded from the federal agency’s “substantial” transmission designation.

Using a color-based scale measuring the rate of infections per 100,000 residents and the percentage of tests that return positive, the CDC has monitored the spread of the virus since the pandemic first began.

Moderate, or yellow, applies to counties with between 10 and 49.99 cases of the virus per 100,000 people and a positivity rate below 8%.

Moderate is the second-lowest level on the four-tier scale and is a significant indicator of the county’s health ahead of the upcoming holiday season.

Throughout this week, Orange County Public Schools is also continuing its vaccination attempts, which we first told you about here

Last week, 5,635 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were given out at OCPS high schools.

OCPS will continue the vaccination events after Thanksgiving.

Those who received their first shot should return to the same location.

The first vaccination event after Thanksgiving will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Apopka High School, Boone High School, Evans High School, Freedom High School, Ocoee High School and University High School.
