The Student Government Association for West Orange High School announced on Thursday, Sept. 9, that homecoming is making a return this fall.
The 2021 Homecoming will feature an "Under the Stars" theme since the dance will be held completely outdoors.
Alicia Light, one of the SGA sponsors who is also in charge of homecoming, said the SGA leaders presented a variety of ideas to the leadership class that were then voted on by the student body. The team then voted within the SGA to narrow the themes down.
"We look a couple of days during lunches and utilizing our social media platforms to have the student body vote on their favorite theme," Light said. "HOCO Under the Stars was the final vote!"
The dance will be held on Oct. 2 from 8-11:30 p.m. at SeaWorld.
Light said this year's homecoming is highly anticipated by students, especially because the students have not had a homecoming since fall of 2019.
"When OCPS created the outside only restriction, we had to get creative," Light said. "Thankfully that led us to SeaWorld as a venue. They are able to provide a great space for our students outdoors and the students will have the ability to ride the Kraken rollercoaster—which is definitely unique!"
Tickets can be purchased from Sept. 13 through Sept. 22 for $60. Students must be in good standing to purchase tickets with at least a 2.0 GPA and no excessive absences or tardies.
