Tucked away in Orlando, The Milkhouse (201 N. Bumby Ave., Orlando) combines four unique and local businesses: Swine & Sons, Kelly's Ice Cream, Foxtail Coffee and The Ravenous Pig Brewing Company. We were hoping it would be good. What we got was surprising!
Stepping inside with my kids, I was greeted warmly and directed to fins a spot of our choosing in the spacious, impeccably clean dining area. The inside was well air-conditioned and had plenty to look at on the wall. But hoping to take in the last few days of great weather before the heat sets in, we opted to sit outside on the patio. While the weather was still nice for us, there were fans located outside to ensure the space remains comfortable all summer long.
The food is handled by Swine & Sons, a Michelin-recognized counter service restaurant. It offers Southern-inspired takes on simple, classic dishes, including scratch-made burgers, sandwiches, salads, sides and bar snacks. The smash burgers and Swine’s famous Hot Chicken Sandwich are among the favorites.
Our server knowledgeably guided us through the menu with an impressive depth of knowledge. She knew every allergy, substitution and ingredient in every dish about which we asked. Eventually, we ordered what felt like one of everything! The food was amazing! So delicious! I couldn’t help myself! We even treated ourselves to some Oatmeal Cream Pie ice cream!
The Milkhouse isn't just about food though; it's about providing an experience that transcends the ordinary. Whether you're craving the creamy delights of Kelly's Ice Cream, the rich aromas of Foxtail Coffee or the savory creations of The Ravenous Pig, there's something to delight every palate. But what truly sets The Milkhouse apart is its commitment to community — a value ingrained in every facet of its operation.
What struck me most about our experience was the genuine warmth and relaxed ambiance permeating the space; it was a true reflection of Orlando's vibrant community. I saw an eclectic representation of the diversity The Milkhouse attracts — a youth group was enjoying ice cream treats after their events; a group of friends were unwinding over cocktails; and a few couples were enjoying a date night. Add in my brood of four boys, and you can easily see how The Milkhouse is a destination for all.
From hosting neighborhood events to supporting local artisans and charitable causes, The Milkhouse serves as a hub of connection and collaboration. It's a place where friendships are forged, ideas are exchanged, and memories are made — a true embodiment of Orlando's spirit.
So, why not treat yourself to a visit to The Milkhouse this week? Indulge in Southern favorites and sweet treats while supporting our local community. Whether you're seeking a moment of solitude with a cup of coffee or a lively gathering with friends and family, The Milkhouse welcomes you with open arms. It's more than a dining destination; it's a celebration of community and connection.
