The Florida Film Festival brings 180 movies to the Enzian Theater featuring international films, short films, and big Hollywood stars including Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz in "The Lobster." Celebrate opening night of the 2016 Florida Film Festival and sample food and cocktails from your favorite local spots.

Mitchell’s Fish Market presents The Rioja and Tapas Escape as part of the Spring and Summer Patio Series on Saturday, April 9, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 460 N. Earth Day in the Park will be hosted on Sunday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Central Park. Ceremonial events from the main stage will include a welcome speech from the mayor and award presentations from Winter Park Green School Grant. Kids will have the opportunity to engage in games, art projects, an educational planting experience and making tie-dye T-shirts. The Central Florida Community Arts will present the Young Artists Orchestra Concert on Sunday, April 10, at 5 p.m. at the Cavalry Assembly. Kick off this year’s Winter Park Paint Out with the Quick Draw Competition at Central Park on Sunday, April 10. In honor of this year’s Earth Day Celebration, each participant will have two hours to create a unique work of art based on Park Avenue. Artist check-in begins at 10 a.m. at the Polasek Museum tent, and the competition begins at 11 a.m. Artwork will be judged and on public display from 2 until 3 p.m. Please register before Saturday, April 9, by visiting polasek.org/2016-quick-draw-competition

The city of Winter Park and the Multifaith Education Project will host the 13th annual Trees for Peace Interfaith Tree Planting Project on Tuesday, April 12, in Railroad Park, located near the intersection of South Orlando and Leith avenues, just south of Orange Ave. Vice Mayor Sarah Sprinkel will begin the ceremony at 11:30 a.m. and the program will be led by Debbie Medina, director of The Multifaith Education Project (MEP). Over 85 Christian, Jewish and Muslim students and faculty, representing The Geneva School, Jewish Academy of Orlando, and Leaders Preparatory School, will join together to plant trees for peace. Attend “Wisdom of Weeds – Edible and Medicinal Plants Growing Around Us” at the Winter Park Garden Club on Wednesday, April 13, at 10 a.m. Learn self-care tips and recipes from herbalist Emily Ruff, executive director of the Florida School of Holistic Living. Join the Center for Independent Living for its 40th anniversary party “Celebrating Independence,” honoring the work and dedication of founding members Dick Batchelor and the late Beverly Chapman. With great pride, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History at Rollins College, is pleased to announce the debut of “UNABBREVIATED,” an exhibition showcasing the work of eight senior art majors from the class of 2016. Come out for a great ladies night for charity supporting ICAN of Central Florida from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Holiday Inn located at 1724 N. Alafaya Trail in Orlando. Bring your daughter to a Magical Undersea World – the 2016 Princess Ball – on Saturday, April 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. This magical night highlights the positive relationship between fathers and daughters. For the fourth consecutive year, the A. Jones Family Foundation will be hosting the Princess Ball, at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort and proceeds from this event will support the programs of Florida Hospital for Children. This event features entertainment from professional ballet dancers and pageant winners, along with food, photo booth, face painting, carriage rides, silent auction, professional photography, and of course, many of the princesses from our favorite fairy tale stories. Tax-Aide volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, will provide free income tax assistance at the Winter Park Library every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Thursday, April 14. Individuals seeking assistance should bring pertinent tax documents such as a copy of last year’s income tax return; forms showing income earned, pensions and Social Security; 1099 Forms showing interest and dividends, proof of health insurance coverage and photo ID of self, plus social security cards for all those listed on their return.
