Charity Festival & Art Stroll on Friday

FEB. 1

More than 40 local artists of all genres will display their works of art at the First Friday Charity Festival & Art Stroll on Friday, Feb. 1 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Village Center. The Arts Hub Florida and Baldwin Park Merchants Association are sponsors of the First Friday series that offers live music, drink specials, free samples, interactive activities and much more. The monthly event is free to the public and is both family and pet friendly.

FEB. 2

The Florida Hospital Lady Track Shack 5K will take place Saturday, Feb. 2, at Mead Garden in Winter Park at 1385 S. Denning Drive. The event, which will benefit the Florida Hospital Breast Cancer Care Fund, will begin with a 3.1 mile Run & Walk at 7:30 a.m. for women only, followed by a Kids’ Run at 8:45 a.m. Registration is required. IHOP will invite guests to enjoy a free stack of buttermilk pancakes Feb. 5 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to celebrate National Pancake Day, while also celebrating the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ 30th anniversary. The restaurant chain hopes to raise $3 million as the first national fundraising campaign to kick off the 2013 fundraising year for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Guests will be encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the local Children’s Miracle Network or other local charities. The Maitland Public Library, located at 501 S. Maitland Ave., will have the following events in which visitors can attend: Preschool Stories on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and on Thursdays a walk at 6:30 a.m., Baby Time from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and Adventures with Books Club from 2-4 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 2, from 11 a.m. -noon Scott Thomas and Social Security will be the topic. On Sunday, Feb. 3, Elaine Person will teach poetry from 3:30-5:30 p.m., and there will be a Volunteer Reception in the conference room from 2-4 p.m.

“The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle” will be playing through Feb. 24 at the Orlando Repertory Theatre. The production is perfect for all ages and will be performed in the style of Disney’s “The Lion King” or Animal Kingdom’s “Finding Nemo: The Musical,” with all of Dr. Dolittle’s animal friends portrayed by live actors with puppets. Now in its 24th year, the annual Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts and Humanities (ZORA! Festival) runs until Feb. 3 in Eatonville. The theme for the internationally recognized nine-day event is “Zora’s Eatonville: Culture as Conservator of the Community’s Heritage.” Activities include live concerts, educational seminars, heritage tours, the HATitude Brunch and an Outdoor Festival of the Arts.
