Winter Park was en route to Timber Creek after a 7-1 regional quarterfinal trouncing of Port St. Lucie Centennial May 1 on the baseball diamond. The Tuesday night showdown at press time would be a make-it-or-break-it shot for the Wildcats at reaching the regional championship game.

Small ball dominated the night for the Wildcats, who had no trouble making it around the bases in their first round matchup against Centennial. It would prove one of the team’s biggest blowouts of the year, adding to their 11-1 smashing of University in the district tournament two games before.

If the Wildcats managed an upset win over Timber Creek, they’ll be in the regional final at 7 p.m. May 10, with the location determined by the winner of East Lake versus Durant. In either case, the Wildcats would play on the road.

The Eagles played host to Melbourne Wednesday afternoon at press time, following a 9-3 romp over Palm Bay’s Bayside in the first round of regional action. If they make it to the regional finals with a win, they’ll play host at 7 p.m. Friday night for the championship.
