Counsel for Caregivers Seminar Series at the Orlando Public Library, third floor, Albertson Room, 101 E. Join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council as they host the 2011 POW-MIA Recognition Ceremony in the City Hall Rotunda located at 400 S. Orange Ave., Downtown Orlando, at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9. The ceremony is being conducted by the Cadets of AFROTC Detachment 159 from the University of Central Florida.

The Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center is hosting its fifth annual signature fundraising event, “Black Tie From the Waist High,” from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 16, featuring dinner and auctions. All proceeds benefit caregivers, who come to ADRC for resources and support. Suggested attire is formal above the waist and casual wear waist down. Tickets are $100. The Kinneret Council on Aging and Kinneret Apartments will hold a Health Care Expo from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 in the Delaney Dining Room at Kinneret Apartments, 515 Delaney Ave., Orlando. Kinneret is looking for additional vendors to participate in this event. Vendor and sponsorship levels begin at $75. Join Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer in honoring our local veterans during the city of Orlando’s 2011 Veterans Day Parade, which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 in Downtown Orlando. Bring the family to salute the men and women from more than 150 Central Florida veterans’ organizations and enjoy marching bands, floats and more. Applications are available online at cityoforlando.net/veterans and are due no later than Oct. 7.

Mary Ellen Grant, CEO of Share the Care, Inc., accepted the Community Fearless Caregiver award from event host Gary Barg, Editor in Chief of “Today’s Caregiver” magazine and caregiver.com. The awards luncheon was held during the first annual Central Florida Fearless Caregiver conference at the Holy Trinity Conference Center in Maitland on June 29.

Join us every Monday in August at 1 p.m. for our Conversational French group. Spend some time chatting with others and making new friends. Must be fluent in French to participate.

Join Esther every Tuesday in August at 9 a.m. for tai chi classes. Cost of the class is $2 to the teacher.

Join Harvey every Tuesday in August at 10:30 a.m. for bridge lessons. Once you have a handle on the game, come back on Wednesday, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. for a morning of bridge with fellow players.

Transportation Travel Credit – ITNOrlando, which provides door-thru-door transportation services to elders, lets you create a “credit account” that allows you to bank your volunteer hours. Life Expectancy Across the U.S.: The Washington Post broke down life expectancy by geographical regions, race and sex. American women live an average of 2.5 years longer than men.
