Wildcats win big over Ocoee

Four big plays made all the difference in a 42-16 Winter Park rout of Ocoee Friday night.

The Wildcats (2-0) ran and passed their way to the easy victory thanks to quarterback Sam Richardson, who engineered passing plays of 47 and 68 yards in the first half, interspersed by big runs from Brandon Brown-Dukes, who picked up 159 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Richardson came alive at Showalter Field, finding yardage in the air and on the ground to lead his team to big scores early. By the end of the game, he’d have 179 yards in the air and 79 on the ground.

This week, the Wildcats travel to rival Boone for a 7:30 p.m. showdown Friday. The Braves (0-2) are on a two-game losing streak, most recently losing 21-13 to Timber Creek, a game in which the Braves were favored to win.

Edgewater

Meanwhile, just west at Edgewater, the Eagles had trouble hanging with offensive powerhouse Olympia, which beat them 28-12 to send their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, the Eagles host Apopka, which is coming off a shocker 14-0 shutout loss to Wekiva. That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lake Howell

After a somewhat promising 42-21 loss against Lyman in week one, the Silver Hawks (0-2) were destroyed 52-0 by Lake Mary last week. The Silver Hawks are still haunted by an inability to generate touchdowns that has followed them for three years.

This Friday, the Silver Hawks have even more of a challenge on their hands, facing a Lake Brantley team that’s fresh off a 17-10 win over Oviedo.
