Photo fun

Moms can learn how to use their digital cameras this Mother’s Day. This family event, happening on Saturday, May 7, will start at Harmon Photo at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., 1323 N. Orange Ave., Orlando with a free lecture and then travel to Harry P. Leu Gardens where the class will learn how to shoot flowers and butterflies.

A son’s work

Mothers can enjoy hearing from Kathy Eldon, who will be sharing the work of her son, world-famous reporter Dan Eldon, who was killed on assignment in Somalia in 1992. Film and brunch

Mom and the entire family can enjoy Mother’s Day brunch at the Enzian Theater in Maitland on Sunday, May 8. After receiving sparkling mimosas upon entry, attendees will be treated to a gourmet brunch buffet and a showing of “The Sound of Music” on the big screen. Individual tickets are $35. Brunch and facials

The Hilton Orlando is offering a special Mother’s Day brunch from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 8 that includes all natural eggs Benedict with spicy hollandaise, blue crab and purple potato hash and more. The hotel is also offering Mommy & Me facials, which includes two, 50-minute cleansing facials based on organic Moor Mud. The Mother’s Day brunch is $50 per person, and the Mommy and Me special is $200 plus a service fee. For reservations, call 407-313-8625.

DIY chocolate gift

This Mother’s Day, Rosen Shingle Creek gives kids the opportunity to create a gift that’s truly from their hearts. Children are invited to become a “Junior Executive Pastry Chef” and spend the afternoon with world famous pastry chef David Ramirez of Food Network fame, to create their own special chocolate creations for the No. 1 woman in their lives. This special workshop takes place at the Café Osceola private dining room from 9-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 7 and is $15 plus tax per child ages 5 and older. Support women

Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Company’s new line of Café Femenino coffees benefit women coffee producers and their children in underdeveloped countries. The coffees, which are Fair Trade Organic-certified, are locally roasted in Orlando. Barnie’s also features a purse made out of recycled burlap coffee sacks.
