The Mayors’ Sole Challenge,” a 30-minute fun walk through Winter Park, will be Saturday, Oct. 6 at 8 a.m. in Central Park. The event is free but advanced registration is requested by visiting HealthyCentralFlorida.org or calling 407-644-2300, extension 241.

Central Florida Sports Complex will have a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 133 Atlantic Drive, Maitland. Food, snacks and beverages will be provided. Winter Park Volleyball Club will train there. Visit wpvc.org

Florida Premier Research Institute will have a free Health Fair Family Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Winter Park Civic Center.

Playful Early Learners Workshops for Parents: Positive Parenting and Playful Early Learning, Birth to Age 5 is Wednesdays, Oct. 10, 17, 31, & Nov. 7, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Shayna’s Village at the JCC Maitland. Child Care is provided. Register at PlayfulEarlyLearners.com

Movie in the Park featuring “The Lorax” is 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Quinn Strong Park in Maitland.

Sign up for the Greater Maitland 5k, at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. The race will take off from Orangewood Church at 1300 W. Maitland Blvd. To register, please visit Orangewood.org/5k

Ford Drive 4 UR School benefit for the Winter Park High School Band, will be Saturday, Oct. 20 at Winter Park High School, from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. For every test drive of a new Ford vehicle by a licensed driver age 18 or over, Ford Motor Company and Don Reid Ford will donate $20 to the Winter Park High School Band.

• Thursday, Oct. 4, from noon to 1 p.m. is Garden Talks with Hortus Oasis: Let’s Go Plant Shopping. Cost is $5. Registration required

• Friday, Oct. 5, (continues Oct. 12, 19, 26) from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. is Zumba Gold, all of the fun of Zumba exercise paced for beginners and older adults. Cost is $24 or $8/class. Registration required.

• Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. is Star Wars Reads Day, including themed snacks, costume and trivia contests, crafts and more. A full schedule is at www.wppl.org

• Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. is Knotty Knitters (beginners, intermediate and experts welcome). Registration requested.
