Winter Park Wildcats' winning streak

The Wildcats (3-5, 2-1) now have their first winning streak of the season after demolishing Colonial (1-8, 0-4) 35-6 on Oct. 25.

But now they face a real challenge against a Timber Creek team (7-2, 2-1) that’s had no such troubles stringing wins this season. The Wolves are coming off an unusual 40-26 loss to University.

The Wildcats will look to key in on Wolves running back Jacques Patrick, who ran for 174 yards on 22 carries against University, despite a stifling defense.

Winter Park had no trouble without quarterback Asiantii Woulard last Thursday, leveraging the run heavy attack of QB Jeff Whitted to gradually accelerate their offense throughout the game. He fed Edmond Jacobs for two touchdown runs to help lead the Cats to victory. Kicker Ari Ben-Zeev was a perfect four-for-four on extra points.

The Wildcats will have to do the improbable for a shot at the postseason — beat Timber Creek. The teams are tied in district standings going into the final district game of the season. The Wildcats will have to contain the Wolves’ offense, which has turned most of their wins into blowouts.

They’ll have to do it in Wolf country, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.

Edgewater

The Eagles (2-6, 2-1) are in an unusual position heading into the final week of district play. With a losing record in a weak district, they’re tied for second place. A win against Lake Howell (3-5, 2-1), which hasn’t had a winning season in half a decade, would put them in the postseason.

They’ll have to shake off the 56-20 loss they suffered to Apopka last week. That would also be the biggest loss they’ve suffered all season. Curiously for the Eagles, it was also one of their highest scoring games.

Neither the Eagles nor the Silver Hawks have flown high this year in the offensive department, although the Hawks did manage 37 points in a blowout against Colonial two weeks ago.

The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Lake Howell, with the season on the line.
