The Winter Park Wildcats stumbled early but went on to blow out the Edgewater Eagles on the football field 26-13 on Sept. 7. Now they head into Week 3 of the season with some momentum to face rival Boone yet again.

They’ll hope to take away some lessons learned in their win over Edgewater, which started out seemingly ominous for the Wildcats, who had trouble mobilizing their offense early. And as they stumbled, Edgewater rumbled, using workhorse running back Jonathan Altman over and over again as he went through and around the Wildcats’ defensive line on 16 carries.

Altman would rush for 66 yards total in the game, including picking up both of his team’s touchdowns.

Both of those scores came after it was already too late for the Eagles, who watched the Wildcats pick up speed and run away with the game on some big plays in the second quarter. Blake McClain added some drama with a 58-yard interception return in the second quarter. Ian Banks-Tillman ran in a 22-yarder of his own.

Quarterback Asiantii Woulard would find his arm and engineer two of the team’s touchdowns, the first through the air and the second on his feet.

Edgewater’s J.B. Woodman threw for 105 yards, though he only completed 9 of 36 attempts due to strong secondary defense by the Wildcats, who picked off three of his passes.

After the first half, the Wildcats cruised as the Eagles tried to catch up, but to no avail.

The Wildcats will hit the road for Boone for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday. The Braves outlasted West Orange in the first week of the season 37-31 before taking a break in Week 2.

The Wildcats will be looking to get even this time. Boone edged them 28-21 last season.
