FilmSlam returns to the Enzian

Enjoy a live screening of William Shakespeare’s tragedy “King Lear” from the National Theatre in London at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, at the Enzian Theater. Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (“Skyfall,” “American Beauty”) returns to the National Theatre to direct Simon Russell Beale (“Timon of Athens,” “Collaborators”) in the title role. FilmSlam returns to the Enzian Theater on Sunday, June 29, at 1 p.m. with a new showcase of films. Now in its seventh year at Enzian, FilmSlam continues to be a popular outlet for indie and student filmmakers throughout Florida. Usually held at 1 p.m. every second Sunday, FilmSlam is a monthly indie film showcase and competition open to Florida filmmakers and students. This series empowers audience members to select each month’s winner, who then advances to participate in Enzian’s Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase. Come out to the Crosby YMCA in Winter Park every Thursday at 6 p.m. for exercise and advice at their eight-week Walk with a Doc program. In partnership with the Orlando Chapter of USA Dance, the Alzheimer's Association Central and North Florida Chapter is bringing a free ballroom dance program to the community. "Ballroom for the Brain" runs from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays from June 21 through July 26 at the Crosby YMCA in Winter Park. Trained dance instructors from USA Dance will teach swing, rumba, merengue and the waltz to early- and middle- stage individuals and their care partners. RSVP is required.
