There are new and familiar faces slated to face off in the Maitland mayoral race in March, with three candidates filing paperwork intending to run so far with two weeks left before the qualifying period closes.

One name not yet in the race is that of current mayor Howard Schieferdecker. As of this week, Schieferdecker said he’s unsure of whether he’ll run for another term at the head of the dais.

“I still haven’t decided yet,” he said. “I’ve achieved a lot of what I wanted to … I’m still talking it over with my family.”

Schieferdecker has served as mayor since January 2011 when he stepped up to fill in when then-mayor Doug Kinson resigned to run – unsuccessfully – for the Orange County Commission.

Those who have filed paperwork intending to run so far include former two-term councilwoman Linda Frosch, former Maitland Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Dale McDonald, and newcomer Edwin Harvey, a recent University of Central Florida graduate and lifelong Maitland resident.

Qualifying for the March 10 mayoral election officially begins at noon on Jan. 19 and runs through noon on Jan. 23, leaving two weeks left for other candidates to throw their hats into the ring.
