The Great American Bacon Race 5K will be Saturday, Aug. 1, at Harbor Park in Baldwin Park. Registration opens at 8 a.m., 5K race starts at 9 a.m., and the Kids 1K Bacon Dash will be at 10 a.m. The Great American Bacon Race is a walking/stroller friendly 5K with delicious bacon stations! Awards and prizes will be awarded based on time and age group. Participants are invited to attend the Bacon Bash After-Party: free bacon, music and plenty of bacon goodness! Bring your sweetie to East End Market for a culinary date night designed to up your epicurean skills and your love of local food. This hands-on class gives couples the opportunity to create a four-course feast under the expert tutelage of East End’s Chef-in-Residence Jes Tantalo. The night will kick off with appetizers perfect for noshing while participants sip some spirits and dive into the menu sourced almost entirely from East End’s gourmet purveyors downstairs. Join the Orlando Shakes for a free open house to celebrate their 27th season! Festivities include crafts and coloring for the little ones, meet-and-greet photo opportunities with costumed characters, and more. This annual event is fun for the entire family! You've heard yoga is good for your health, but why? Separate out myths from facts at the Healing with Yoga class, hosted by Jewish Family Services. This class will cover the basic history and practice of yoga, as well as introduce meditation and chanting. Yoga instructors will explain the differences between common yoga classes offered at gyms and studios and answer any questions. No mats or props are required for participation. The class will take place Sunday, Aug. 2, from 3 to 4 p.m. at 2100 Lee Road in Winter Park. The event is free of charge but space is limited. On Monday, Aug. 3, the University Club of Winter Park presents “Colonial Complexities: Mexico in the 16th Century” by Dr. Amy Gelfin. Gelfin will examine Viceregal Mexico through social, cultural and political lenses. She will address the clergy, marriage and language among other aspects of the first hundred years of Spanish occupation of Mexico. Amy Gelfin, Ph.D. is a curator of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. She is the former associate curator of the Art of the Americas at the San Diego Museum of Art. Her recent curatorial efforts include women and abstraction and women, war, and industry. The University Club is located at 841 N. Park Ave. and this presentation is free to all members and guests.

Join the Alzheimer's Association for a free Praise for a Purpose Service. This is a free non-denominational service offered the first Wednesday of the month, specifically designed for individuals with dementia and their families. Join them for music, refreshments and fellowship on Wednesday, Aug. 5, starting at 1 p.m. at Aloma United Methodist Church, located at 3045 Aloma Ave. in Winter Park. Central Florida Community Arts’ fifth annual Summer Classical season concert will feature “The Brahms Requiem,” said to be one of Brahms’ most popular and beautiful pieces. The CFCArts Classical Choir will perform the work along with a full chamber orchestra. The show will take place on Thursday, Aug. 6, and Friday, Aug. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Maitland. Tickets are on sale for $10 per person. On Saturdays, Aug. 8 and Aug. 15, the Winter Park Volleyball Club will be hosting tryouts for the upcoming girls mini-club volleyball season. Girls age 12 and younger should arrive for registration at 9 a.m. and tryouts will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Girls age 13 and older should arrive for registration at 12:30 p.m. and tryouts will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $50 per player. Central Florida’s most celebrated chefs will gather from 6:45 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Orlando World Center Marriott to cook up support for the 26th installment of Orlando's Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry. Forty-four of the area’s most accomplished chefs will showcase tasting portions of signature dishes, accompanied by fine wines, craft beers and specialty cocktails, to ensure that no child grows up hungry in our city and across America. For those that have not already submitted a survey online, the team is inviting you to join the 300-plus people in the conversation at the upcoming Community Talk dates on Thursdays, between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., July 30, Aug. 6, Aug. 13, and Aug. 27. Community Talks are held at the Rachel D. Murrah Civic Center, located at 1050 W. Morse Blvd. These short, 30-minute, one-on-one talks are offered to help you navigate through the survey and allow the visioning team to talk with you about the overall process, find out how to reach others, and identify willingness to co-create the plan.
