It wasn’t always easy on Thursday night, but the Wildcats managed to do what they’ve done so far early in the season – win.
The Wildcats swept the Harmony Longhorns 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23), with the home side having to come back in each set.
In the first two sets, the Wildcats (4-0, 2-0) managed to go off after being down early, before a tighter matchup in the third set looked to extend the night.
After being down several points to start off, the Wildcats went back-and-forth with the Longhorns (5-1, 2-0) for most of the set until the Wildcats were able to rally and hold off a late surge thanks to solid team play and something Head Coach Stephanie Gibson loves – grit.
“We were actually bringing that up in the post-game huddle – how the kids showed a lot of determination and grit,” Gibson said. “They kept their composure and they didn’t panic, and they got back to doing what we do.”
Players like senior outside hitter Katherine Webb, who racked up 10 kills and 10 digs, and senior setter Lauren Musante, who had 10 kills and a whopping 30 assists, helped lead the way for the Wildcats.
Add on senior middle hitter Paige Massengale, who grabbed seven kills and 5 blocks, and the Wildcats were playing solid on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
The Wildcats win put an end to the Longhorns’ five-game win streak, while they kept themselves hot with four-straight wins to start the season.
Winter Park will hope to keep their streak alive as they take on Winter Springs (2-1, 1-1) on Wednesday.
