In a game filled with long possessions and heavy play in the middle of the field, the Hornets (11-5-4) managed to control tempo to take home a 2-0 win over the Saints (11-9-1) — sealing up a district title in the process.

The game started with chances from both sides, as they pushed through a bogged down midfield.

After just 13-minutes of play, the Hornets were able to make a break through when senior Vanessa Piermont made a move to the goal, and was able to capitalize on a one-on-one chance with the goalie — making it 1-0 Hornets with 26:55 left in the first half.

From there the Hornets and Saints swapped a few shots on goal, but Piermont's goal would stand as the long score for the half.

The second half would continue the trend of tough play, with the only difference coming during in the 26th-minute when a ball that sailed into the Saints' box ricocheted off a defender for an own goal — making it 2-0 Hornets.

The score would hold all the way to the end, but it's not all bad news for the Saints.

By just making the finals, both teams locked up playoff spots — with the Hornets getting home field advantage to start off.

The Hornets will kick off the playoffs with a home game against Edgewood (13-4-2), while the Saints will travel to Melbourne to take on the Hustlers of Melbourne Central Catholic (16-3-1). Both games will be played Feb. 6.
