Windermere town leaders will vote during the Aug. 11 Town Council meeting on an ordinance that would prohibit possession of alcoholic beverages in town parks.

Council members will discuss Ordinance No. 2020-05 pertaining to conduct in town parks and recreation areas. According to town documents, various Windermere parks have had a history of being pickup points for boaters and others for the purpose of distributing and consuming alcoholic beverages on the lakes or within parks.

Additionally, police officers now will be allowed to conduct inspections of containers for alcoholic beverages.

Previous Ordinance 2015-05 adds to the Parks and Recreation section of the Code of Ordinances pertaining to the possession of alcoholic beverages within the town's parks.

According to the ordinance in discussion, Ordinance 2020-05 is necessary for the health, safety and welfare of town residents.
