OCPS announces administration of over 12,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in last month

During the past month, Orange County Public Schools administered over 12,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at its clinics. 

We first told you about OCPS officially announcing its participation in administering COVID-19 vaccines for ages 5 and older here and its plans to continue after Thanksgiving break here. 

OCPS then announced last week that they saw 4,308 doses of the vaccine given in the second round of clinics, before the last vaccination event for that week on Saturday, Dec. 4, which we told you about here. 

On Tuesday, Dec. 7, OCPS announced that in the past month, 12,105 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered during OCPS-hosted events for students, staff, their families and the community. 

"The turnout of those choosing to get vaccinated at our school-hosted events was terrific, many schools even showed an increase for the second round as compared to the first," stated OCPS Chief Communications Officer Scott Howat. "We hope parents continue to consider the benefits of vaccinations for their entire family, and consult with their medical provider if they have questions. OCPS remains committed to providing our schools as convenient and trusted locations for vaccine distribution, doing our part to combat the spread of COVID-19 in our community."

The two rounds of clinics took place at 22 OCPS high schools across the district between Nov. 9, and Dec. 6. According to OCPS, the schedule was planned so that children could be fully vaccinated by the Winter Break holidays. 

The clinics were open to anyone needing any type of COVID-19 vaccine, whether it be a pediatric, 5-11 years of age, or adult, 12 years of age and up, dose or a booster shot. 

According to the data provided by OCPS, of the 22 high schools that provided clinics, Lake Nona High School, Windermere High School and Horizon High School yielded the highest total rates of vaccinations distributed for both age groups combined in the first round of clinics. Lake Nona administered 542, Windermere administered 477 and Horizon administered 387. 

The first round of clinics yielded 5,690 vaccinations in total. 

In the second round of clinics, Lake Nona was on top again with 717 vaccinations while Windermere had 590 and Horizon had 465. 

The second round of clinics yielded 6,415 vaccinations in total.
