April springtime weather sets the stage for citywide events and activities in Maitland throughout the month. With something for everyone, all you have to do is get out your calendar and make plans to experience great events for the entire family:

During the week of April 4, the Maitland Art Center begins its spring schedule of classes and workshops, and on April 8, the Maitland Art and History Association hosts Culture and Cocktails at the Art Center.

April 9 will see the continuation of the Leisure Services department Movies in the Park series with the presentation of “Legend of the Guardians” (Rated PG) on our 40-foot high-definition screen in Quinn Strong Park at 8 p.m. This free event is sure to please one and all.

The Maitland Historical Museum will be presenting its continuing exhibit “Be Prepared; Boy Scouts of America” through April 10.

The Maitland Public Library will host a poetry contest for aspiring creative writers ages 8 through 18 throughout the month of April. The library will also host the first story time on the lawn event on April 12 at 10:30 a.m.

The City of Maitland Farmers’ Market is open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the shores of beautiful Lake Lily Park. The Farmers Market will be closed on April 17 for the Spring Arts Festival and on April 24 in observance of the Easter holiday.

Performing Arts of Maitland musicians will be performing at the Farmer’s Market and will feature Tom Evan on April 3 and Patrick Sammy on April 10.

On April 14-17, the Library Friends will hold a book sale to benefit the Maitland Public Library at the library.

On April 16 and 17, the Maitland Chamber of Commerce will present the 23rd Annual Spring Arts Festival at Lake Lily Park. With artists from around the nation, this festival promises to be a day to remember for all.

The Maitland Art Center will present an exhibit titled Park Maitland Perspectives from April 22 through May 1.

On April 30, the Maitland Art Center will host the Children’s Art Festival from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. With activities to inspire young people, this event promises to provide a great day of exploring art and creativity.

On May 1, the Friends of First Response-Maitland, which supports the first responders of Maitland Fire and Maitland Police, will host their Annual Kickball Tournament at Maitland Baseball Complex at noon.

Funds raised by this charity event will provide emergency and crisis funding to first responders and their families. The charity provides opportunities for the first responders to informally interact with area residents and get to know one another as neighbors.

This year’s team entries are from Maitland Fire Department, Maitland Police Department, the Maitland Rotary Club, UCF, U.S. Marshals, and others. The trophy has been won for the last two years by Maitland firefighters. They feel that they will bring it home again this year. Food at the event will be provided by Maitland Men’s club. There will also be a silent auction at the event.
