April 25 Commission meeting topics of interest

There will be a City Commission meeting on Monday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few topics of interest:

Mayor’s Report:

  • Winter Park High School Basketball Team Recognition

  • Presentation by Dana Sussman of the 30th Tree City USA Award, the 19th Growth Award and the grant check from the State of Forestry, for $18,000 for hazardous tree pruning

  • Proclamation - Occupational Safety and Health Week

  • Proclamation - Administrative Professionals Week

  • Donation to the Friends of Mead Garden from the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra

Run for the Trees

In honor of National Arbor Day, the city of Winter Park will proudly host the 19th annual Jeannette Genius McKean “Run for the Trees” on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 a.m. This annual 5K/3.1 mile run/walk will begin at Showalter Field, located at 2525 Cady Way, and finish on beautiful Genius Drive, which is open to the public only once a year for this magnificent event. Each “Run for the Trees” race participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt as well as a young tree to plant at a location of their choice.

Funds raised from the event will support the Winter Park Tree Replacement Fund. Tree replacement is needed continually throughout the city as trees become damaged from storms or reach the end of their natural lifespan. Easter Egg Hunt

The City of Winter Park is proud to hold the 57th annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 23 in beautiful Central Park located in downtown Winter Park. Children up to 10 years of age can begin lining up at 9:30 a.m. The hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m. with the official starting signal. Children with special needs are also encouraged to join in the fun. For more information, please call 407-599-3203.
