Okay, tonight I’m concerned about including everything I wanted to, so forgive me if I miss something.
But, better, forgive me and if it’s something I can correct . . . let me know, REMIND ME!
Getting things started tonight . . . have you been wondering what all that work has been about at Winter Park City Hall? Well, I can tell you, much of it looks VERY different. I’ve gotten a few sneak peeks over the past week, but the finished job will be on display on Monday, August 27, from 1:30 to 3:30. There will be a special ceremony at 1:45, with live music and refreshments to follow.
Two quick follow-ups from recent blog posts . . . .
Don’t forget: Tomorrow night, Wednesday, the Winter Park High School marching band will be performing tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 15th at 7:00 p.m. at Showalter Stadium in Winter Park. Get into the spirit of fall football with the music that serenades it!
Don’t forget: Thursday evening is the first Winter Park Village on Thursday, August 16, from 6 to 10 p.m. Enjoy a complimentary beer, wine or cocktail at six of their fabulous restaurants along with great food specials, sidewalk sales, lots of entertainment and even a goodie bag! Tickets are $25 at the door or $20 (plus fee) on-line at: http://toastwinterparkvillage-efbevent.eventbrite.com/
Today while out on Park Avenue I met Carissa and Mason. Carissa Dixon is the daughter of the owner of Orlando Watch Company on Park Avenue and Mason – yes, Dixon! – is the gorgeous family Boxer. I am a HUGE Boxer LUVer, with three CRAZAY girls at our house. I can’t believe I didn’t know about Mason when I did the ‘Working Breeds’ piece in The Observer back in June. Mason was a sweetie – of course – and Carissa was a delight and she immediately had me in a time-warp back to the 80s with all the watches on her wrists . . . . like some used to wear Swatches. She said that’s the way she transports them to the office upstairs. Smart! Nice to meet both . . . and I’ll be in to visit a lot in the future! I’d say I’d bring my girls, but that might require more insurance!
I’m going to start providing more and event info from Local treasure Enzian Theater. Three more days to see ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ and then . . . . a Local tale which may not at first sound so Local: THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES. From their recent e-mail on the film: “This Friday Enzian opens THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES, a documentary about local billionaires Jackie and David Siegel whose revealing story uncovers the innate virtues and flaws of the American dream. The film begins with a look at the construction of the biggest house in America, a sprawling, 90,000-square-foot mansion inspired by Versailles. Since a booming time-share business built on the real-estate bubble is financing the palatial home, the economic crisis brings progress to a halt. Next we witness the impact this turn of fiscal fortune has on the Siegels and Westgate Resorts over the next two years in a riveting and insightful film rich with self-effacing humor.” Okay, who wants to be my date?! (Getting my other half into a movie theater is like pulling the proverbial tooth!)
Quick mention: Do you focus on a lot of American Made products? Let me know! A friend is working on a piece to highlight just that! Leave a comment here or e-mail me at [email protected] and I’ll pass it along.
Among the many e-mails I received today was one on a website / organization based in Maitland I was previously unaware of: www.SaveTheManatee.org. From my experience, you do not have to spend a lot of time around these creatures to fall in LUV with them. Gentle, and, despite their huge size, so graceful in the water. I had the pleasure of swimming with them along the Crystal River years ago and it was like magic! At quick look, the site is great, and includes a number of free things, among them a manatee cam, wallpapers for your PC and more. I haven’t even replied yet, but this is definitely something I want to learn more about!
Lastly tonight . . . ‘Give A Dog A Home’ . This one is Tilly, and she is absolutely ADORABLE! Miss Tilly is an 8 week old Italian Greyhound mix that came to Lovey Loaves from a shelter in Fort Worth, TX. She is a precious angel who has minor difficulty walking. A full health assessment is in the works, however at this time the plan for Tilly is to get her in the water at Rocky's Retreat Canine Health & Fitness Center for some hydrotherapy. Tilly will be available for adoption soon. They are accepting pre-applications for forever homes which can be found at www.LoveyLoaves.com.
