The Maitland City Council met Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Below is a synopsis of that meeting.
Special Presentations
• Mayor Schieferdecker presented Lt. Jeff Harris with a resolution as the city’s Community with Honorable Character Employee of the Quarter, thanking and congratulating Lt. Harris for his on-going efforts as an outstanding and honorable representative of the city of Maitland.
• Chief Doug Ball presented a $5,000 check to Council that was received from an anonymous donor to be used for the Police Department’s K-9 Unit.
Consent:
• The minutes of the Nov. 26 Council meeting were approved as presented.
• The Council meeting of Dec. 24 was cancelled in observance of the Christmas holidays. The next Council meeting will be held on Jan. 14, 2013.
• Authorized the Mayor and Police Chief to execute the Orange County Municipal Agency Mutual Aid Agreement. This agreement allows the law enforcement agencies who are a part of this agreement to enter into a Voluntary Cooperation Agreement for assistance of a routine law enforcement nature that crosses jurisdictional lines and a Requested Operational Assistance Agreement for the rendering of assistance in connection with a law enforcement emergency.
• The transfer of ownership and maintenance responsibility of the Monroe Avenue FDOT Ditch was tabled.
• Extended the maintenance agreement with Control Specialists Company for an additional two years for traffic signal maintenance and installation.
• Authorized the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Burgess & Niple Inc. for Professional Engineering and Planning Services to complete the 2012 Sewer System Master Plan Update at a cost of $53,601.52.
• Authorized the “sole source” purchase of a nutrient separating baffle box from Suntree Technologies in the amount of $28,794.50
Decisions:
• Gabriella Serrado and Alan Woodard were appointed to the Transportation Advisory Board effective immediately, each for a three-year term.
• Adopted a resolution supporting a Quick Action Closing Fund incentive for Digital Risk Corporation, including a commitment of $200,000 over a five-year payout period, beginning in FY 2014-15.
• Tabled until the Jan. 14 Council meeting the first readying of an Ordinance that provides a temporary moratorium for the payment of Parks and Recreation Impact fees for a three-day time period.
• Authorized the City Manager to negotiate and enter into an agreement with the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court to financially support the Court hiring a Magistrate to hear Red Light Violation cases.
• Authorized the City Manager to enter into an Interlocal Agreement with the city of Winter Park to hire and fund a staff attorney/legal advisor to represent both the Winter Park and Maitland Police Departments in law enforcement matters.
