Let’s do Park Avenue’s FIRST ever cash mob!

You’ve seen the videos of all these horrible mobs trashing stores, right? Well, there’s actually a very positive counterpoint to such an event: the CASH mob!

For such an event you pick a store or business or product at a lower price point. Then, you go and you support it with your cash. Sound old-fashioned? Nope, it’s a totally contemporary take on supporting a LOCAL business! And the target is acquired: Briarpatch on Park Avenue.

If you don’t know already, one of Winter Park’s most be-LUVed Park Avenue businesses – closed in 1989 – still exists in a way. East India Ice Cream is a company I hear about again and again and again from those I interact with on facebook. A few months ago I heard that, in fact, their ice cream still exists, now within the Briarpatch restaurant on Park Avenue. And, it’s still made by the same guy who was making it back then.

I LUV that Winter Park, so many IN Winter Park retain this fondness for what meant so much to them in days gone by. Forget what you LUVed in your past and you’re more likely to have a bland future. Once upon a time, a dreamer, an idealist, someone with a passion for a product started something and from that others came to LUV it.

Come out with us to Briarpatch this Saturday at 2 o’clock to celebrate one of Winter Park and Park Avenue’s most storied small businesses, still remembered so fondly. If you’re on facebook, join us via this Event: http://www.facebook.com/events/177708462362764/

If you’re around Park Avenue Thursday evening or just looking for something to do, join us at The Bistro Restaurant in Park Avenue’s Hidden Garden Courtyard for the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours. We start at 5:30 and go until 7:30, with a cost of $5 for Chamber members and $15 for others. Come check out the NEW Bistro on Park Avenue! Lots has likely changed since you were last there, including their awesome new oyster bar! If you can’t make it tomorrow night, you’ve got to come by soon. Bistro has a daily Happy Hour 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday extended 5 – 9 p.m. Happy Hour includes house red and white win, well martinis for $5, mimosas and bloody Mary’s and bottle beer.

Oh, and on that Bistro note . . . . we’re looking for great Local images to surround The Chef’s Table! Got a great photo, sign or other Local image we might LUV? Contact me at [email protected], reference BISTRO in the subject line. We can easily have items copied or whatever works best. But we want this space to showcase Winter Park / Park Avenue nostalgia!

Tonight’s Give A Dog A Home . . . . Sweet Lulabelle! Lulabelle is a four year old, 15 pound female Schnauzer. Her foster mom says one word describes her: regal! Typical to her breed, she would prefer to be quietly dignified and resting rather than caught up in bedlam play sessions! She rides elegantly in the car, and has nice house manners. She gets along well with other dogs, and is not overly yappy or barky. Although she is still relatively new to foster care, her foster mom says so far, she is a real gem!
