Please join me for a cup of coffee Thursday, July 19, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 W. Lyman Ave., for my annual CoffeeTalk gathering. This is the city’s seventh year in holding these annual CoffeeTalk sessions for residents that have a latte on their minds or some beans to grind.

This is your opportunity to talk with me in an informal environment and ask me any questions related to city business. Special thanks to Palmano’s Café, Coffee & Wine Bar for donating the coffee. Hope to see you there!

City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, July 23, at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 Park Ave. S. Below are a few topics of interest:

Consent Agenda

• Approve the minutes of July 9.

• Approve the following contracts:

o Piggybacking the State of Florida contract with Storr Office Environments of Central Florida, and authorize the mayor to execute the contract.

o Piggybacking the State of Florida contract with Verizon Wireless for mobile communication services, and authorize the mayor to execute the contract.

• Approve the budget adjustment to contribute to Habitat for Humanity for the purchase of a building lot at 626 W. Comstock Ave.

Household hazardous waste disposal

The city of Winter Park in partnership with Waste Pro® and A-1 Assets, Inc., will be offering household hazardous waste disposal for all city residents Saturday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Public Works Compound located at 1409 Howell Branch Road, directly behind Fire Station 64.

The following items will be accepted:

• fertilizers & pesticides

• antifreeze

• propane tanks

• paint thinners

• wet latex paint (Dry latex paint is not hazardous waste and when dried out, it can be disposed of with your regular household trash. Paint can be dried out by either leaving the top off or using drying agents such as saw dust or kitty litter.)

• non-alkaline batteries (regular alkaline batteries can go in trash)

• gasoline

• used ending oil

• pool chemicals

• household chemicals

• tires (maximum of four)

• used motor oil

• e-waste (computers, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, FAX machines, CD players & stereos)

Drugs and prescription medications:

• Please take to the city’s Prescription Reclamation Station in the lobby of the Public Safety Facility located at 500 N. Virginia Ave., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Here are some helpful tips for a quick & safe drop-off:

• Please bring your proof of city residency — driver’s license or utility bill statement.

• Keep all hazardous waste materials in their original containers with its original labeling. Unknown items will not be accepted.

• Items will only be accepted Saturday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. Items delivered before or after this time will not be accepted.

• This drop off is for residential use only. No contractors please.

Popcorn Flicks in Central Park

Due to the inclement weather last week, the "The Great Muppet Caper" has been rescheduled to Thursday, July 26, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Central Park in downtown Winter Park. Popcorn Flicks is presented by the city of Winter Park and Enzian Theater. Bring your blanket or chair to enjoy the free movie under the stars in Central Park. Free popcorn for everyone.
