Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, marked the passing of attorney Julie Eason Smith, founder of our Oviedo Businesswomen Network, after a brief, but fierce battle with cancer.
In addition to a beautiful family and a thriving law practice, Julie was well known for recognizing the need for local businesswomen to come together to work, play, and form lifelong friendships. Over a decade ago, she established the Oviedo Businesswomen Network to champion the cause of networking and bring people together to achieve success in their business lives as well as their personal lives.
A very private person, she had an impact on this community in so many ways...more than we'll ever know. She was determined, focused, incredibly creative, and a visionary when it came to understanding the importance of working together and having fun. Over the years, the Oviedo Businesswomen Network has consistently grown in numbers and Julie's legendary get-it-done spirit was the foundation for the many unique and popular events that OBN has offered its members. We always knew that if Julie proposed an idea for a new OBN event, it was going to be a winner. From the longest running, well known, annual Beach Day, to activities such as Survivor, Rat Race, Biggest Loser, and many spur-of-the-moment movie nights, her enthusiasm and attention to detail made each experience a success.
She met her personal goals for fitness as well, and up until recently was cross training for mini marathons. She was enthusiastic about biking and kayaking. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was first to step up to the plate to get the job done in incredible style. Sensitive to others' needs, Julie was always available for counsel, advice, and support for her friends, family, and her community. There was no one more passionate about an organization than Julie was about OBN. It was her baby and we were happy to help advance her innovative ideas to bring businesswomen together.
We shall miss Julie's calm presence and her ability to rally the troops to get things done. She was an important role model for businesswomen and will be the source of inspiration for OBN's future endeavors.
The Oviedo Businesswomen Network offers its heartfelt condolences to her family. We want them to know that we are committed to continuing Julie's vision to bring ambitious and talented businesswomen together for professional success, laughter, and lifelong friendships.
