I write this at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 5. The Republican Party, perhaps for its own judicious reasons, has never decided to part ways with our creator, and refers often to God in its utterances.
The Democrats on the other hand have precipitously decided to go their own way without referential reliance upon anything more than having their own feet squarely on the ground.
Even Albert Einstein, when asked if he believed in God, answered tersely, “Well, I didn’t make myself.”
In the upcoming vote-seeking turbulence, the left seemed to have opted to exclude “God” from its platform literature this election. They chose to go it alone in a world, which can be lonely indeed without some consciousness of superhuman help in the wings.
This commentator has never made any claim to being a theologian and recognizes clearly that the key conceptual word “God” is loaded with almost infinite interpretive possibilities. The Democrats formerly referred to God in their speech, but have, for reasons of their own, now chosen to make their comments in purely secular statements. Human history is rife with definitions of God that collectively include every theology that exists.
From the days of Marx and Lenin, communists have evoked a godless society in which politics replaces theology. What are Barack Obama’s feelings about God? Does Obama have any such feelings, or is his “God” simply politics? It is, I believe, impossible to believe concomitantly in Communism and Christianity.
Michael Reagan says, “I’m not surprised at all. I mean I don’t know why people would be surprised that the Democrat Party removed Jerusalem and God from the platform.” Reagan added, “If the Republicans ever remove God, as my father once said, ‘When we forget that we’re one nation under God, we’ll be a nation gone under.’ And Democrats have proved that they’re under.”
Here is a paragraph from the 2008 Democrat Party Platform: “We need a government that stands up for hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”
The 2012 version says: “We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on earth — the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”
Also, the 2008 Democratic Platform states unequivocally, “Jerusalem is, and will remain, the capital of Israel.” In 2012, the Democrats dropped from their platform any recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital — silence — an acknowledgement that Republican Candidate Mitt Romney called “shameful.”

It’s 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 5 and the TV has informed me that the Dems just put back into their platform the references to “God and Jerusalem!” If you experienced any of this bizarre display on TV, the references were not voted in, but crammed in. We may therefore deduce that the Dems don’t care about “God or Jerusalem,” they simply want the votes involved in such connections. So much for ideals!
Isn’t it interesting that the U.S. has unending high unemployment, a reduction in the national debt rating for the first time in our history, federal debt now at $16 trillion — the highest ever and climbing — more people than ever on welfare and food stamps, and an Obama tax plan that proposes a 55 percent estate tax! And all this is forward? And now, perhaps to be “politically correct” the Dems have resurrected God!
