Regional community leaders are gathering in the gardens of The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens on Thursday, Aug. 8, at noon to officially kick-off a three-month fundraising challenge to save Winter Park’s historic Capen-Showalter House on Interlachen Drive in Winter Park. This landmark endeavor — newly initiated as Preservation Capen —requires $650,000 to successfully launch the Capen-Showalter House by barge from the western shore of Lake Osceola to the grounds of the Polasek Museum. The house must be removed from its current site by the end of November or it will be demolished. The Galloway Foundation of Winter Park has generously offered a $100,000 matching grant to start the effort, and organizers expect a number of substantial pledges in the coming weeks. Visit polasek.org for more information.
