CRA & City Commission meeting

There will be a CRA meeting Monday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers. The City Commission will meet at 3:30 p.m. for its regularly scheduled meeting. Below are a few topics of interest:

Mayor’s Report

• Check Presentation - Winter Park Chamber of Commerce to area schools from the 2012 pancake breakfast fundraiser.

• “Employee of the Quarter” presentation to Earl Hoffman, meter systems manager.

Non-Action Items

• Presentation on treatment of herbicide-resistant hydrilla.

Consent Agenda

• Approve the minutes of 1/28/2013.

• Approve various contracts and solicitations (complete list can be found at cityofwinterpark.org/ccpackets).

• Approve the disposal of 845 W. New England Ave. to the Hannibal Square Community Land Trust to develop five single-family homes.

Action Items Requiring Discussion

• Electric System Undergrounding Program

Public Hearings

• Resolution - Calling for a public hearing to discuss undergrounding of electric/CATV facilities for properties abutting Via Salerno/Via Capri.

• Second readings of the ordinances related to 500 E. Lake Sue Ave.

• Second reading of the ordinance regarding the repeal of supermajority needed for adoption of ordinances.

• First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 58 “Land Development Code” Article I, “Comprehensive Plan” in the Future Land Use Element so as to add new policy text and Future Land Use category restricted and limited to parking lot use to correspond to the Parking Lot Zoning District.

• First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 58, “Land Development Code”, Article III “Zoning” to amend Section 58-80 Parking Lot District so as to provide design standards for parking lots in proximity to residential property.

Train station groundbreaking

The city, in partnership with Amtrak, the Federal Transit Administration, and Florida Department of Transportation, will break ground on the new train station to service Amtrak & SunRail Feb. 13, at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place just south of the current Amtrak station located at 150 W. Morse Blvd.

Featuring Craftsman-style architecture, the new station will include ADA-compliant public restrooms, a new, warm lobby, and elements of art including the “Art in Transit” concept recently approved by the City Commission. Construction of the new station begins this month with an expected grand opening in winter 2013. Personalize a brick for future MLK monument

The city is proud to honor the legacy of one of the world’s most influential civil rights leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK). Residents and visitors are encouraged to unite in this tribute by purchasing and personalizing one or more bricks to become part of the monument at the entrance to the newly dedicated MLK Park located at 1050 W. Morse Blvd. We invite you to take this opportunity to participate in the bricking project to leave an everlasting tribute to Dr. King and his values in honor of a loved one, friend or family member.
