Council authorizes purchase of police cars for $70K

The Maitland City Council met on Jan. 28, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Below is a synopsis of that meeting.

Public Hearings:

• A voluntary annexation ordinance for Don Reid Ford, including adjacent medians and rights-of-way, was adopted.

• Adopted on second reading, an ordinance approving a second amendment to the Lease Agreement with the Maitland Art and History Association (A & H), proposing to lease Lots 44 and 45, Sybelia Heights Subdivision, recorded in Plat Book “J,” page 22, Public Records of Orange County.

• Introduced an ordinance on first reading to approve the proposed CDP Text Amendment and Map Amendment consistent with the Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation dated Jan. 17, 2013; and authorized City staff to transmit the amendment to the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for review, and tentatively establish March 25, 2013, as the second public hearing date for adoption of the ordinance. (This is the first of two required public hearings.)

Consent:

• The minutes of the Jan. 14 Council meeting were approved as presented.

• Received various Advisory Board meeting minutes.

• A Resolution supporting the Florida League of Cities’ Legislative Action agenda was passed.

• Authorized the purchase of two fully equipped 2013 Chevrolet Caprice police cars from Sting Ray Chevrolet for $70,286.

• Approved the submittal of a $12,240 Department of Homeland Security, Assistance to Firefighters Fire Prevention and Safety Grant (FP&S) for fire prevention and safety related equipment with 5 percent of the total being a required funding match from the city.

• Passed a resolution to accept ownership and maintenance responsibility of the Monroe Avenue FDOT ditch.

Decision:

• Authorized the City Manager to sign a letter of support from the city of Maitland for the Art & History Museums – Maitland’s Germaine Marvel Building expansion and renovation plans contingent on the City Attorney’s review of the building’s Heritage Land designation.
