July 22 City Commission meeting highlights

There was a City Commission meeting held July 22 in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few highlights of decisions made at the meeting:

Mayor’s Report

• The Employee of the Quarter Award was presented to Randy Jones, Water and Wastewater Division foreman.

Non-action items

• The May 2013 Financial Report was presented and accepted.

Consent Agenda

• The minutes of the 7/8/13 City Commission meeting were approved.

• The purchases, contract, task order and change orders were approved (for a complete listing, visit cityofwinterpark.org/Government > City Commission > Agenda).

Action Items Requiring Discussion

• The tentative operating millage rate of 4.0923 mills and tentative voted debt service millages of .1004 and .2092 mills were approved, which combined will be a tax rate decrease from the current year.

• Power purchase agreement with Clean FootPrint, LLC, was approved.

Public hearings

• The request of Mr. Phil Keen to alter the exterior architectural style of the project at 125 S. Interlachen Ave. was approved with an amendment to build either the original architectural style proposed in 2006 or the new modern style proposed under this agenda item.

• The first reading of the ordinance repealing obsolete provisions and amending Chapter 98, Traffic and Vehicles, Article VI, Traffic Light Safety Act, of the city code to implement Chapter 2013-160, Laws of Florida; providing for local hearing officer consistent with general law was approved.

• The first reading of the ordinance amending Section 2-107(e), Administrative Fines; Costs of Repair; Liens, of Chapter 2, Administration, repealing the clause declaring that code enforcement liens take priority over other liens was approved.

• The second reading of the ordinance annexing the right of way of Aloma Avenue from 2015 Aloma Ave., east to the city limits and the right of way of Balfour Drive from Amsden Road south to the city limits was approved.

• The second reading of the ordinance authorizing the conveyance of the city-owned property at 645 Symonds Ave., in exchange for the property located at 813 W. New England Ave. was approved.

  • The contribution to Habitat for Humanity of Winter Park/Maitland Inc. of the building lot at 813 W. New England Ave. was approved.

Parking lot temporarily closed for construction

The municipal parking lot located on the corner of New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard will be closed for refurbishment and asphalt resurfacing starting Monday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 4, and reopening Monday, Aug. 5.

Please do not park in this lot at any time during the dates the parking lot is closed. Any vehicles parked in the lot during these dates will be towed at the owners’ expense. Should this happen and your vehicle be towed, contact the Winter Park Police Department at 407-644-1313 for instruction to claim your vehicle.

Popcorn Flicks in the Park featuring “Shrek”

On Thursday, Aug. 8, at 8 p.m. in downtown Central Park, Popcorn Flicks in the Park will feature “Shrek.” Popcorn Flicks is presented by Ruth’s Chris and Winter Park CRA, and produced by Enzian Theater. This film series features classic films for the whole family. We encourage you to bring a blanket, a picnic or snacks, and some family and friends and join us! There’s free popcorn for everyone. CoffeeTalk featuring Mayor Ken Bradley

Please join Mayor Ken Bradley at CoffeeTalk scheduled in conjunction with the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Winter Park on Friday, Aug. 9. Networking begins at 7:45 a.m., and CoffeeTalk will begin at 8 a.m., at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 West Lyman Ave.
