June 24 City Commission meeting
There was a City Commission meeting held June 10 in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few highlights from that meeting:
Mayor’s Report
• A check presentation was made to the city from the Kenneth and Rachel Murrah City of Winter Park Tree Fund.
• The following presentations were made: Operational Excellence Award for the Swoope Water Treatment Plant; David York Award - Water Reuse Award System of the Year; Spring Webisode “Winter Park Country Club & Golf Course”; proclamation for Parks & Recreation Month.
• Board re-appointment was made for Police Pension Board.

• First reading of the ordinance renaming the portion of Loch Lomond Drive between Glenwood Drive and Mizell Avenue as North Edinburgh Drive and renaming that section of Edinburgh Drive between Mizell Avenue and Dundee Drive as South Edinburgh Drive was approved.
• Second reading of the ordinance establishing hours of operation for state license massage therapy businesses and to prohibit residential use of such commercial and office space was approved.
• Second reading of the ordinance amending Section 42-1, Definitions, and 42-7, Qualification of Candidates and Clerk’s Certification, of Chapter 42, Elections, to add definitions for “Qualification Deadline,” “Qualification Documents,” and “Qualification Period,” and to clarify qualification requirements was approved.
• Second reading of the ordinance adopting the city seal retroactive to the formal adoption of the seal on May 10, 2004, was approved.
• Second reading amending the Comprehensive Plan the Future Land Use designations of Medium Density Residential to Parking Lot on the rear of the property at 1285 Orange Ave. and on 951 and 955 Oak Place and to Office Future Land Use on the south 10 feet of 955 Oak Place was approved.
• Second reading amending the official zoning map to change the Medium Density Multi-Family Residential (R-3) District zoning to Parking Lot (PL) district on the rear of the property at 1285 Orange Ave. and on 951 and 955 Oak Place and to Office (o-1) District on the south 10 feet of 955 Oak Place was approved.

Construction on Lakemont Avenue to begin Monday, July 8
On Monday, July 8, the city of Winter Park will begin a sewer rehab project at the intersection of Lakemont and Mizell avenues near Winter Park Memorial Hospital, A Florida Hospital. The intersection will be closed and signs will indicate detour routes. This project is scheduled to be complete by Monday, July 22, weather permitting.
Vehicles and pedestrians can expect traffic delays and side-street road closures during the course of the project which will be indicated with signage. Please allow extra time while traveling in this area or take an alternate route to avoid delays. Trash pick-up and mail service are expected to continue on normal schedules throughout the project.

Olde Fashioned 4th of July
The city presents the 18th annual Olde Fashioned 4th of July Celebration Thursday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Central Park. Mayor Ken Bradley will lead a special presentation at 9:15 a.m. from the main stage. The annual celebration will feature live patriotic music performed by the Bach Festival Brass Band and Bach Festival Choir, horse-drawn wagon rides, Orlando Cloggers, Rockin’ Roadster Road Show and much more! Children’s activities will include the annual bicycle parade at 9 a.m. (lineup begins at 8:30 a.m.) from City Hall to Central Park, as well as fun games and inflatables. Free hot dogs, watermelon and water will available for all to enjoy while supplies last.
In addition, the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art will present its Independence Day Open House where admission is free to its galleries from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
