The Art and History Museums –Maitland (A&H) continues its popular social event for art lovers, Culture & Cocktails, on Friday, March 8 from 6-9 p.m. The event will take place in A&H’s Germaine Marvel Building, located at 210 W. Packwood Ave. This month, artist Gianelle Gelpi is featured in an exhibition that includes a spectrum of her most recent paintings, with large and small brightly rendered acrylic paintings and a sample of her mother-daughter collaborative works. The event will also include music by Jayo. Guests are also invited to view two exhibitions in the A&H’s Main Galleries: James Casey’s Equine Sculpture and Anna Tomczak’s Animalia. The sixth Annual Doggie Derby will bring the community together to celebrate man’s best friend, while helping kids and families, on Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Corrine Commons, Baldwin Park, located at 1913 Meeting Place in Orlando. Canines compete with dogs of similar size in a single-elimination, 25-yard sprint race. Champions are declared and trophies and prizes are awarded in each of the four weight divisions. The overall winner receives the grand prize. A $15 fee will allow interested individuals to register a dog online at doggiederby.com
The Orlando/Winter Park branch of the American Association of University Women will host its annual Spring Literary Luncheon featuring Patricia Friendberg, author of best seller “21 Aldsgate” at 11:30 p.m. March 9.

Bob Orafalo, operating officer of the Orlando Solar Bears, will tell about the hockey team coming to Orlando and plans for the future. Through April 16 AARP will be offering free tax assistance Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-4 p.m. at the Maitland Senior Center, located at 345 S. “Sewn Together: Photographic Quilts Reflecting the Historic Family Ties of Eatonville, Maitland and Winter Park” will be on exhibit through Saturday, April 13 at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center, a program of Crealdé School of Art that is located at 642 W. New England Ave. in Winter Park. All events are free and open to the public.
