She belongs to the ages

Winter Park Mayor Ken Bradley proclaimed March 14, 2013 as Barbara Drew Hoffstot Day for her contributions to the city. Her family was presented with a plaque at Rollins College on March 14 in recognition of the 1942 Rollins College graduate’s work to help enact the Historic Preservation Act of 1966 that created the National Register of Historic Places. That register now includes 11 buildings in Winter Park. Hoffstot’s name was added to the Rollins College Walk of Fame.

Second Harvest expands

More than 400 supporters – including business and community leaders, volunteers and representatives from the Food Bank’s partner agencies – joined Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida for the dedication of its new 100,000-square-foot distribution center earlier this month. The special “ribbon cutting” event signified the completion of the new Morgan & Morgan, P.A. Hunger Relief Center located at 411 Mercy Drive in Orlando, and it also marks the Food Bank’s 30th year of operation.

Sneakers 2 Succeed

The UCF Alumni Community Volunteers Chapter has teamed up with NBA Player Chris Duhon’s Stand Tall Foundation, the Art of Stepping, Orange County Public Schools, UCF Athletics, the city of Orlando and other Orlando-area service organizations to help homeless children and families in need through the “Sneakers 2 Succeed” shoe drive. During the entire month of March (1-31), citizens and students can help make a difference by donating new or gently used shoes to any of the drop-off locations provided throughout Central Florida.
