Video interviewing seems to be a hot new trend. At HR Florida, we were next to a booth that specialized in the software for companies to interview you over the computer. This is a new way for companies to pre-screen candidates for their open positions.
The employer will put in a list of questions and the candidate records up to three minutes of video to answer the questions. The employer is then able to evaluate the candidate’s answers and see how they carry themselves and speak.
Currently there are a few major companies picking up this trend. Hilton is one of them.
These interviews need to be treated like an in person interview. Dressing for success (even if it is from the waist up) is an imperative. You need to look the part. Rehearse your answer at least once (there is a time limit) before hitting record.
Prepare for the most often asked questions about weaknesses, strengths, why you want to work for the company, and telling about yourself.
Stay positive throughout the video interview, and watch for weird tics or quirks such as playing with your hair or crossing your arms.
While they may add some stress to the process, at least it saves on gas!
