It took just one week to upend the chase for the Florida Collegiate Summer League lead in the standings, and now the Sanford River Rats are on top.

The Rats jumped to an 8-2 record in the past 10 games after spanking the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs 8-6 on June 22. But whether that will turn into a streak is anyone’s guess, with four of the FCSL’s six teams without a winning or losing streak as of the start of the week.

The Rats’ most recent win was a back-and-forth slugfest that featured a pair of comebacks before the Rats batted in five runs in two innings to run away with the win. The Rats’ Jordan Robinson, Blake Prince and Derlin Martinez each had a double in the game, with Martinez going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs.

The Winter Garden Squeeze and the Dawgs are still in the running, only a game and a half each out of first place. They had shared the league lead for most of last week before each suffering a loss in their most recent games.

After a pair of games at press time, the Dawgs will travel to Bishop Moore High School to face the College Park Freedom at 7 p.m. June 26. After that they’ll head home for a 7 p.m. June 27 showdown against the DeLand Suns. At 6 p.m. June 28 they’ll head to Conrad Park in DeLand to face the Suns again, then at 1 p.m. June 29 they’re back home again against the Suns.
