Fairways for Warriors and Hannibal Square Community Land Trust Inc. will host a golf tournament from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at Orange County National in Winter Garden. It’s a fundraiser to help build a wounded soldier’s new Winter Park home. Sgt. Bacary Sambou — critically injured by an IED blast in Afghanistan — will be given a new home in the city of culture and heritage later this year. The 13th annual Orange Blossom Jubilee is Winter Park Day Nursery’s largest auction event, presented by Bonn-J Contracting and hosted by Kenneth and Ann Hicks Murrah, with special guest emcees Curtis Earth (of Earth Trivia) and Erica Lee (of Wake Up With Erica on WLOQ Radio). This event is the nonprofit preschool’s largest fundraiser of the year, generating financial support to provide affordable preschool education for Central Florida’s working families. The money raised goes toward tuition scholarships, teacher salaries, facility upgrades, curriculum enrichment and more. The event will feature a four-course meal, games, and exciting live and silent auctions. Winter Park Day Nursery, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, has impacted the lives of more than 12,000 students since it was founded in 1939. Orange County residents can better prepare themselves this hurricane season by attending the county’s 2014 Hurricane Expo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Barnett Park, located at 4603 W. Colonial Drive. This free event will offer preparedness information, live demonstrations and hands-on training. Free weather radios and first aid kits will be distributed while supplies last. The University Club of Winter Park will present “A Princess of Great Courage” by Lynn Schiffhorst at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 2. Prince Philip’s mother, Alice of Battenberg — who married into the Greek Royal Family — coped with deafness and schizophrenia her whole life. She lived a life dedicated to the relief of suffering people during two wars and has been honored in Israel as one of the “Righteous Among the Nations.” The University Club of Winter Park is located at 841 N.
